Civil War Reproduction Quilt

An "Antique" you can use!

An “Antique” you can use!  This quilt is made of Civil War era Moda brand reproduction fabrics.  The fabrics and batting are cotton, just like the quilts of the day.  This is the perfect quilt to drape over your family room sofa and snuggle under on chilly nights, or put on an antique Shaker bed.  This quilt measures 65″x 89″, perfect for a single bed or bunk.  Find this quilt on etsy; search for Spellbound Quilt Art Studio.

I overdyed the fabric used for the border. The original fabric, designed by Simpson and Minich                    for  Moda, is the bright yellow and red swatch with the white selvage, below. I think that is what the fabric originally looked like, but I wanted a more subdued color, so I overdyed it with shades of  burgundy, brown and violet to find the right color combination for my version of this border.                                                                      You can see the test swatches below.

I settled on a mix of light brown and a little burgundy dye to make the fabric what I wanted it to be.
